Chattanen pee rahi hain hamari sadayen sab : Ghazal by Muslim Saleem
(Muslim Saleem with wife Asma Farooq and sons Atullah Faizan and Abdul Ahad Farhan on February 7, 2010
Ham phool gulsitan mein chunen, khar khayen sab
Dekhen jo unki samt to nazren churayen sab
(When I pluck flowers in the garden, everyone seethes with anger within
But when I gaze at them (in triumph) all of them look away in shame)
Koi palat ke aati nahin, goonjti nahin
Chattanen pee rahi hain hamari sadayen sab
None of them returns, none of them reverberates
(Instead of re-bounding) Rocks seem to be absorbing my calls
Kya dena chahta hai faqat hashr mein sila
Kyoon jam’a kar raha hamari dua’en sab
(Does He want to compensate me on the doomsday alone
Why is He collecting all my prayers (instead of fulfilling them))
Murda Zameer zinda hain masnooi saans par
Lashen si chal rahi hain mera dayen-bayen sab
(dead consciences are alive on ventilators
(it seems) corpses are moving about to my left and to my right
(Now, line of difference between West and East has ceased to exist
air droughts of the entire world have become toxic.)
