GHAZAL
Ik zara jab ham uttha kar sar chalehar taraf se der tak patthar chale
(When we walked while raising our head even for a moment
We were bombarded with stones from every side)
Apni qismat hi hai gardish, kay karen
Ik zara thhehren to har manzar chale
(There is no way but to resign to fate since viscious circle has become my destiny
so much so) that every scene starts circling around me as I stop for even a moment.)
Tezgaami thokaren khilwaye gi
Us sey yeh kahiye ki ruk ruk kar chale
(fast speed will force him to stumbe
tell him to move with intervals)
Raat ke sathi ko ab rukhsat karo
Kuchh use bakhsho ki us ka ghar chale
(Now say goodbye to companion of night,
Give him some money so that he can meet both his ends meet)
Jee uthhoon phir sey, kisi ki arzoo
Khoon bankar jism ke andar chale
(I may be resurrected if someone’s desire
starts circulating in my body like blood)
एक ज़रा जब हम उठा कर सर चले
हर तरफ से देर तक पत्थर चले
अपनी किस्मत ही है गर्दिश, क्या रुकें
हम अगर ठेहरें तो हर मंज़र चले
तेजगामी ठोकरें खिलवाएगी
उस से यह कहिये के रुक-रुक कर चले
जी उठू फिर से किसी की आरज़ू
खून बन कर जिस्म के अन्दर चले
रात के साथी को अब रुखसत करो
कुछ उसे बख्शो के उसका घर चले

The pains of competitive and fast life are subtly interwoven in rhythmic, expressive and impressive words in all the couplets of the ghazal.
The first one emphatically expresses the merciless behavior of power-hungry world. The established always crushes the rebel. But the true rebel, that is the poet here, never bows his head down and faces brickbats as punishment. How does he face this onslaught from all the sides is not clear in the poetry. But in second couplet he tells about his “qismat” playing mischief with him all the times, which is the fate of every true rebel.
The next couplet teaches not to move fast blindly to avoid grave mistakes. Poet says “Us se ye kahiye ki ruk ruk kar chale”. Here “ruk ruk ke” means careful moves.
The fourth couplet is about hectic day and night, life of this world, so hectic that it is not easy to find time even for family. The poet beautifully tells about this life with the metaphor of “raat ke sathi” which has many layered and angled meanings inside.
And lastly, alas, poet feels a void inside ,not having the space for “kisi ki arzoo” and he aspires for that “arzoo” to flow in his blood and breath to feel the real pleasurable essence “je uthhoon phir sey” of life.
